Almost two decades later, Diamanda Galás returns to the stage of Theatro Circo for a concert that reaffirms the Greek-American artist’s status as an essential figure of the avant-garde music and one of the most mysterious creators of contemporary creation.

With a career of more than four decades, Galás is recognized for her unique voice, capable of moving between scream and prayer, transforming performance into a cathartic ritual. Since her debut album, The Litanies of Satan (1982), the singer has stood out for the intensity of her voice and performance, addressing themes such as illness, isolation, and genocide in crucial works such as the trilogy The Masque of the Red Death (focused on the AIDS crisis) and her collaboration with John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) on The Sporting Life (1994).

Under the label of her own publishing company, Intravenal Sound Operations (since 2017), Galás consolidated a productive period. From this cycle, Broken Gargoyles (2022) stands out, an acclaimed album that Pitchfork considered “a world apart from other musicians.” Galás’ connection to Braga is further underlined by the presentation of this installation to the city in 2022.

The 2026 concert follows the release, on November 1, 2025, of the remastered reissue of You Must Be Certain of the Devil and De-formation: Second Piano Variations, works that reaffirm her global and historical status, and whose voice is an instrument of confrontation and transcendence.

This concert is supported by the Portuguese Republic – Culture, Youth, and Sports / Directorate-General for the Arts · RTCP – Network of Portuguese Theaters and Cinemas
