Como una baguala oscura marks the return of multidisciplinary artist Nina Laisné to Theatro Circo, where she presented the impressive Arca Ostinata in 2022. In Como una baguala oscura, Nina Laisné unveils a show that combines dance and music in a celebration of Argentine pianist and composer Hilda Herrera, a seminal figure in her country’s folklore.

Directed by Nina Laisné, with choreography and performance by dancer Néstor “Pola” Pastorive, these creators bring together Herrera’s work (present virtually) and Pastorive’s unique movement. The show highlights the relevance of Herrera, who paved the way for the piano in Argentine folklore and whose compositions were censored by political regimes.

Néstor Pastorive presents an extraordinarily free form of dance, distancing himself from virile visions and fusing Argentine zapateo with influences from flamenco and classical dance. Como una baguala oscura questions the reduction of these art forms to mere folklore, celebrating their intensity and universal appeal through the body and an archive of documents and videos.
