Structured as a triptych, Jim Jarmusch’s new film, which won the Golden Lion at Venice, paints three intimate portraits that explore the relationships between adult children and their parents – distant or absent – and the bonds that unite them. Each chapter takes place in a different location: ‘Father’ in the north-east of the United States; “Mother” in Dublin; and ‘Sister Brother’ in Paris. A subtle comedy, interwoven with delicate threads of melancholy characteristic of Jarmusch’s touch.
