Julho é de Jazz: Patricia Brennan Septet
Breaking Stretch
The Patricia Brennan Septet brings together some of today’s most creative improvisers. Led by vibraphonist Patricia Brennan, the group expands on her original quartet, More Touch – comprising Kim Cass (bass), Marcus Gilmore (drums) and Mauricio Herrera (percussion) – by adding three wind players: Adam O’Farrill (trumpet and electronics), Jon Irabagon (alto and sopranino saxophones) and Mark Shim (tenor saxophone).
On the album Breaking Stretch (2024), Brennan focuses on expanding roles and challenging the expectations of each instrument. The ensemble explores dense rhythmic layers, drawing inspiration from the legacy of great 1970s salsa and rock ensembles, such as the Fania All-Stars or Chicago.
With an innovative career on the vibraphone, Patricia Brennan has established herself at the forefront of the New York scene. A rhythmic architect, she blends her Mexican heritage and classical training into a jazz genre of technical and emotional exploration, leading this septet in a process of free and continuous improvisation.
