Claire Simon’s new film takes us to a state primary school on the outskirts of Paris. Between the playground and the classrooms, we observe the daily interactions between teachers and pupils, along with their small dramas and triumphs. In a tribute to one of the noblest professions, now under threat due to the underfunding of the French education system, the documentary filmmaker shows how teachers, more than just teaching, are educating these children. Without interfering, but with empathy and kindness, Learning allows us to see life in its rawest and most authentic form.
