Contexto
Manuel Sarmento and Maria João Petrucci
In the cycle Contexto we present a series of moderated conversations between two guests whose academic, political, or activist backgrounds intersect with themes addressed in a production included in Theatro Circo’s programme.
Throughout this year, productions from the children’s and youth programme — such as What About the Flowers?, Knowing How to Go Deep, and Ocelo — have offered audiences of all ages a journey of wonder and contemplation. Drawing from the imaginative world of the performing arts for children, in this session we will explore the potential of play, games, and leisure to expand ideas, knowledge, and our relationship with the world.
Maria João Petrucci is an artist and art educator with a degree in Painting and dedicated to projects focused on play. She develops international educational and artistic collaborations between Portugal and Italy.
Manuel Sarmento is an Associate Professor and researcher at CIEC – UMinho and ProChild CoLAB, specialized in the sociology of childhood, children’s rights, and child poverty, with extensive experience in national and international advisory bodies.
