Agnes Obel
Danish composer, singer, pianist and producer Agnes Obel, based in Berlin, presents her fifth studio album, The Meaning of Flowers, in Braga, released via Deutsche Grammophon and Blue Note Records. Following her debut at Theatro Circo in 2022, Agnes Obel returns in 2027 for her only date in Portugal to present her new album.
The album breaks a six-year hiatus following Myopia (2020) and was written, recorded, and produced entirely by Obel in her Berlin studio. Inspired by the birth of her daughter, and dedicated to her, the album explores the impact of motherhood and draws on philosopher Hannah Arendt’s concept of natality, incorporating references to the poet Enheduanna (the first known author to sign a work), philosopher Emanuele Coccia, and Danish pop music of the 1980s and 1990s.
With a discography featuring acclaimed works such as Philharmonics (2010), Aventine (2013) and Citizen of Glass (2016), Agnes Obel won a Danish Music Award and the IMPALA’s European Album of the Year award in 2017. Her music has also featured on the soundtracks of series such as The Last of Us, Dark and Big Little Lies.
