The Sermon of Saint Anthony to the Fish is perhaps the best-known work by Father António Vieira, having been preached in São Luís do Maranhão, Brazil, on 13 June 1654, which would become Saint Anthony’s Day in the liturgical calendar.

This project focuses mainly on the Exordium – Chapter 1 of the Sermon, articulated with contemporary texts, maintaining the allegory used by António Vieira and his satirical tone, with the aim of addressing the themes of the 17th-century text that are still present in various spheres of society in the political, economic and social spheres: corruption and abuse of power. These are increasingly relevant and timeless themes.
