Conversations from Paraíso: And after independence? From the struggles of liberation to today’s struggles
with Marta Machado, Sheila Khan and Tiago Vieira da Silva
This conversation will offer a critical reflection on the 50 years of independence of Portuguese-speaking African countries, using the documentary Independência (2015) by Angolan director Mário Bastos as a starting point to explore anti-colonial processes, the construction of national identities and the legacy of these movements in today’s context. The aim is to bring together different perspectives and experiences in order to reflect on what independence has been achieved, what remains of it, and the challenges to its continuity.
This conversation will feature researchers Marta Machado, Sheila Khan, and Tiago Vieira da Silva, moderated by Marisa Rodrigues (BANTUMEN).
