- Contraponto: Metamorfose
Caroline Shaw by Suelen Estar QuartetWithout sheet music, but heirs to the classical tradition and influenced by musical styles as diverse as free jazz, early music, contemporary music or electronica, the Suelen Estar Quartet presents itself as a pioneering ensemble in its approach to the language of free improvisation on classical string instruments. A rare warning from the Spanish scene that explores the sonic limits of its instruments in each of its interpretations.
Under the title of Metamorfose, the Suelen Estar Quartet approaches the repertoire for string quartets by renowned composer Caroline Shaw in an adaptation for this ensemble made up of María José Pámpano (violin), Elena Vázquez (violin), Macarena Montesinos (cello) and Saúl Puga (double bass).
Caroline Shaw is a composer of contemporary music who has received the Pulitzer Prize for Music, several Grammys and an honorary doctorate from Yale, standing out as one of the genre's most outstanding composers. The Suelen Estar Quartet was founded in 2011 by Galician musicians with a common desire to develop experimental musical proposals linked to free improvisation and the music of our time, always striving for artistic excellence.
Contraponto is a cycle dedicated to 20th and 21st century composition, where we invite local, national and international ensembles and composers to guide us through the music of one of the most fertile periods in terms of new ideas and forms.Media partner Antena 2
