Contraponto: Caterina Barbieri & Eliane Radigue
by ONCEIM
As part of the cycle Contraponto, ONCEIM (Orchestra of New Creations, Experimentation, and Improvised Music) presents two masterpieces from its repertoire.
The first part brings Occam Ocean, the first orchestral composition by Éliane Radigue, a historic figure in French contemporary music who passed away this year. Known for her pioneering work in electronic music and in composition using feedback and drones, Radigue translates the acoustic drone into this monumental piece. Completing the programme is the new 2026 composition by acclaimed Italian composer Caterina Barbieri, Non puoi contare l’infinito. This piece for large ensemble, voices, and electronics transposes her modular synthesis techniques into the acoustic realm. Inspired by the concept of birth and separation, the work mystically explores the transition between the finite and the infinite.
Contraponto is a series dedicated to 20th- and 21st-century composition, in which we invite local, national, and international ensembles and composers to guide us through the music of one of the most fertile periods for new ideas and forms.
