Marcello Mastroianni, Fellini’s alter ego, plays Guido Anselmi, a director going through a crisis of inspiration. During a stay at a spa, all his ghosts appear to him, as if in dreams, mixed with the real people who frequent the place or come to visit him: family members, actors, producers and even critics. Unable to find solutions for his next film, Guido allows himself to be overwhelmed by childhood memories and his imagination wanders. And when he is about to abandon the project, all the characters reappear. Guido brings them all together and gives the order to start filming. One of Fellini’s great classics, Fellini 8 1/2 transforms a man’s artistic crisis into a cinematic epic. It is a true dive into the psyche, based on Carl Jung’s theories, and a magical exercise in self-reflection already present in La Dolce Vita.
Starring Marcello Mastroianni, Anouk Aimée, Sandra Milo, and Claudia Cardinale.
