Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno by Georg Friedrich Händel
Teatro Nacional de São Carlos

The Teatro Nacional de São Carlos comes to Theatro Circo to present Georg Friedrich Händel’s oratorio Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno, a piece that echoes like a universal and timeless force. In Braga, at the Theatro Circo, this work promises a unique experience, where the vocal richness and expressive depth will be highlighted. Composed in 1707, when Händel was in Rome, the work was written at the request of Cardinal Benedetto Pamphili, a man of letters who provided him with the libretto entitled La Bellezza ravveduta nel trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno.
Unable to create operas due to the Pope’s ban, Händel transformed the oratorio into a work full of musical theatricality. The plot revolves around four characters: Beauty, Pleasure, Time and Deceit. Beauty, the most complex, oscillates between the arguments presented by Time and Deceit on the one hand and Pleasure on the other. The vocal technique required is extraordinary, especially for Beleza and Prazer, resulting in a musical narrative that conquers with its expressiveness. At Theatro Circo, this work comes to life in a setting that enhances Händel’s eloquence and emotional power.
