ROMA, CIDADE ABERTA

While Rome is occupied by the Nazis, life stories intersect. Among the characters are Pina, Francesco and Manfredi, leader of the Roman resistance movement. Father Pietro helps the resistance, transmitting his messages and helping the movement financially. The Gestapo captures the priest and interrogates him, trying to convince him to betray their cause. Roma, Cidade Aberta is considered a prime example of Neorealism, forming together with Paisà – Liberação and Alemão, Ano Zero the so-called “Neorealist Trilogy”.
