João de Deus, the character created by João César Monteiro in Recordações da Casa Amarela, is in this film the manager and ice cream maker at ‘Paraíso do Gelado’, where he invented the ‘Paraíso’ ice cream, the house speciality that delights customers. He spends his leisure time, almost always alone, collecting pubic hair from women in a precious album he calls ‘Livro dos Pensamentos’ (Book of Thoughts), which is also full of words and quotes.

The film is dedicated to the memory of Serge Daney.
