Crianças ao Poder: The Legendary Tigerman
Short films by Charley Bowers
In this film-concert, part of the ‘Crianças ao Poder’ programme, Theatro Circo brings together the surrealist genius of Charley Bowers and the compositional versatility of The Legendary Tigerman. Bowers, a figure rediscovered in the 1960s, stood out for his unique aesthetic in American comedy, blending live-action with elaborate stop-motion sequences created using gears and everyday objects.
Musician Paulo Furtado, renowned for his extensive career in soundtrack composition, provides the live accompaniment for two seminal short films: A Slip (1927) and There It Is (1928). Moving away from a purely rock sound, Tigerman explores a hybrid sound here, where the guitar interacts with modular synthesizers and organic textures, adapting to Bowers’ bizarre humour and visual opulence.
