The Transparents
Ondjaki/Companhia Cegada
This is the story of the man who becomes invisible, of the block of flats where he lives, and of his bustling, polluted, chaotic yet beautiful city. Composed of the stories of so many other characters living in the same building and in the city of contrasts that is Luanda, the play written by Ondjaki in 2012, winner of the José Saramago Prize, now takes to the stage at Theatro Circo, performed by Companhia Cegada, bearing witness to the timelessness of its humanist portrayal and the sharpness of its political critique. A parable that speaks to us of inequality and abuses of power, of love and companionship, greed and tenacity, The Transparents makes us question our shared future, with humour, lyricism and sarcasm.
