2030
Braga En’Cena
In 2030, the entire world population suffered a blackout. Overnight, all human memory was erased. But we were lucky: we were given a warning and had a year to prepare. All fields of knowledge preserved their legacy. They all made backup copies. All, except for the theatre. The actors only left behind videos of themselves reciting the same poem: Sonnet 30, by Shakespeare.
A hundred years have passed since then, and Julieta, a postgraduate student, begins a research about the disappearance of theatre in the 21st century. During her research, she meets Romeo, a young man who works as a conservation and restoration technician by day and directs an underground theatre group by night.
Between erudite references, popular culture, anachronistic re-enactments, pimba music, biographical tales, and shared madness, Julieta falls in love with this group of resistance, and, of course, with Romeo, who shows her that in a world where theatre does not exist, one cannot speak of love either.
Because, as Tiago Rodrigues has already reminded us: to know something by heart is to know it from the heart.
“But if the while I think on thee, dear friend, / All losses are restored and sorrows end.”
Sonnet 30, William Shakespeare
