Before the Revolution / Prima della rivoluzione
by Bernardo Bertolucci
1964 | Italy | M12 | Drama | 1h52
Fabrizio is a 20-year-old from Parma, torn between his social background and a passionate and romantic adherence to Marxism. One day, his best friend Agostino dies, in what appears to be suicide, deepening the turmoil in his soul. Only Gina, his slightly older aunt, understands the crisis he is going through, and the two grow closer. Beautifully operatic, with the emotional intensity characteristic of youth, Before the Revolution is Bertolucci’s most personal film (Fabrizio is his alter ego), a reflection of his political evolution tinged with conformism and defeat.
Starring Adriana Asti, Francesco Barilli, Allen Midgette and Morando Morandini.
