Laxe’s new film was an explosive moment at the last Cannes Film Festival, leaving viewers spellbound and winning the Jury Prize. Some spoke of a cocktail mixing Antonioni and Tarkovsky with Miller’s Mad Max and some of Friedkin’s cinema.
Between mystery and nightmare, which agitates and hypnotises us, this is the odyssey of a father, accompanied by his youngest son, who is searching for his daughter, who disappeared months ago at raves in the deserts of Morocco. They encounter a troupe of ravers, with whom they continue their journey, and we with them, in a descent into hell in this 21st-century wasteland, a withered land, criss-crossed by decibels [what is that sound pulsing loudly in space?].
One of the films of the year, new, radical, powerful and free. For, as Cesariny wrote: ‘After all, what matters is not to be afraid.’
with Sergi López, Bruno Arjona, Stefania Gadda and Joshua Henderson
